Finnish filmmaker’s skills bring a prize
Cinematographer Teemu Liakka has been awarded a prize for his work for the film Life in Four Elements at Mendi Film Festival in Bilbao, Spain.
The film, produced by MRP Matila Röhr Productions, was competing at the festival together with 51 other movies.
Liakka’s handwork is known to the general public from Finland’s most watched documentary Tale of a Lake, which has mesmerised audiences abroad, including China and the US. He’s also worked with Norwegian productions, including the country’s Oscar nominee The Wave.
Currently Liakka is working as a cinematographer in a French-Finnish collaboration, which tells about the first year of a reindeer calf in Lapland.
“As a cinematographer, Teemu Liakka is uniquely diverse,” says producer Marko Röhr. “In Life in Four Elements he worked under extreme conditions: in deep underground caves in Austria, in fires in Spain, under ice in Finland and in the air in the Alps. I don’t think there are a lot of cinematographers who can do the same.”
Life in Four Elements
is a trip to the four classic elements, earth, water, air and fire, through the stories of four main characters. The film is directed by Austrian Natalie Halla.
