Finns on an international acquisition spree
MacGregor, Kalmar and Wärtsilä have all announced an acquisition of an international company on the same day.
Finnish offshore and marine industry supplier MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has acquired Rapp Marine Group (RMG) to strengthen its fishery and research vessel segment. The company already offers various deck handling solutions, such as cranes and booms, while the RMG acquisition will add advanced winches and related control systems to MacGregor’s portfolio.
The enterprise value of the acquisition amounts to approximately 16 million euros.
, also part of Cargotec, has signed an agreement to acquire the port services business of Inver Engineering in Australia. The investment supports the company’s strategic goal to grow in services whilst strengthening and broadening its existing service capabilities throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, where Inver Port Services has a strong track record of providing repairs, maintenance and crane refurbishment projects.
Elsewhere, technology group Wärtsilä has purchased Trident, a Dutch company specialising in underwater ship maintenance, inspection and repair services. The acquisition makes Wärtsilä the first global operator in the underwater services market and helps the company build in-house competence, increase product synergies and strengthen its position in the market.
The enterprise value of the transaction is 17.5 million euros plus an additional 3.5 million-euro earn-out, based on the business performance in the coming years. Trident and Wärtsilä have previously co-operated in research and development.
