Aalto University and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) have signed a multi-year agreement to deepen co-operation in multiple fields.

Signed by the presidents of both universities on 3 December at Aalto University’s campus in Helsinki, the agreement will increase student exchanges and staff and faculty mobility, as well as advance joint innovation and entrepreneurship.

SUTD was founded in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2009, and its key focus areas are healthcare, cities and aviation, supported by competences in artificial intelligence, data science and digital manufacturing.

It’s considered to be one of the top rising global engineering schools, while multidisciplinary Aalto ranked among the top 10 young universities in the world earlier this year.

“We are delighted to begin a deep collaboration with our colleagues at the Singapore University of Technology and Design,” saidIlkka Niemelä, president of Aalto University. “We share a lot of similarities in how we incorporate design, science and technology into cross-disciplinary research and education. We look forward to offering our students and faculty unique opportunities with one of the top rising global academic communities in Singapore.”
