Finnish industrial expertise in high demand
A quartet of Finnish industrial giants have been busy around the world in their respective fields.
First up is Pöyry, which has been awarded an environmental impact assessment assignment for the Kafue Gorge Lower (KGL) Hyrdopower Project in Zambia. As part of the assignment, Pöyry will assess the social and environmental impact on the downstream areas of the KGL operation located on the Kafue River.
The company has also been awarded with an owner’s engineer services assignment from Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC), for the first phase of a 48 MW gas-fired cogeneration power plant project in Rayong, Thailand.
meanwhile, has expanded to paper bag manufacture in Poland, in a joint venture with Smith Anderson Group Limited, a leading European paper bag supplier. The two will start manufacturing paper bags at Huhtamäki’s facility in Czeladz to serve the Eastern European food service market.
Next up is Metso, which has received the 2017 Mining Magazine Award for “Service and support”, for its Life Cycle Services (LCS) concept implemented at Anglo American’s Los Bronces copper mine in Chile. Metso’s solution reduced downtime of the primary crushing plant at the mine by 69 per cent in 2016.
Further north, Metso also sold one hydrocyclone cluster to Agnico Eagle, to be used for regrind application of gold ore at the huge Meliadine gold project in the Nunavut Territory of northern Canada.
Technology group Wärtsilä has been busy in Japan, where it will supply gas generating sets for two power plants belonging to Tokyo Gas subsidiary, Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions Corporation (TGES). Wärtsilä will also provide a 34SG engine to the SUBARU automobile manufacturing factories at the Yajima plant in Gunma, and another one to the Saitama Shintoshin District Heating and Cooling (DHC) Centre at the Saitama Prefecture.
Finally in Switzerland, Wärtsilä has signed a 10-year service partnership agreement with Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD), appointing Wärtsilä as an authorised global service provider for all WinGD products.
