Finland’s largest commercial television group, MTV, has become a member of Oslo-based Nordisk Film & TV Fond (NFTVF). The membership is set to open more funding opportunities for Finnish television and film projects.

According

to a Variety article, MTV will be the 12th broadcasting partner of NFTVF, and its second Finnish member along with public broadcaster Yle.

NFTVF’s CEO Petri Kemppainen states that the membership will open up funding possibilities for Finnish and Nordic producers alike. Last year, NFTVF supported 26 features and 15 TV drama series to the tune of approximately 10 million euros.

“MTV has a long track record of commissioning drama and feature films from our region, and as a partner, producers of MTV projects financed or pre-bought by the broadcaster can now apply for our funding,” Kemppainen comments.

Part of the Bonnier Group, MTV was the most popular commercial broadcaster in Finland in 2017, with a total audience share of 23.2 per cent. Its offering includes flagship channel MTV3, along with Sub, AVA, MTV Katsomo (online), and C More (subscription).

MTV’s membership was announced during the Göteborg International Film Festival, where NFTVF will present the award for the Best Script Nordic TV Prize. Crime drama Deadwind represents Finland among the five nominees.
