Turkish Airlines will introduce direct flights from Istanbul, Turkey, to Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland for the winter season 2019–2020.

The route will be introduced on 5 December 2019 with three weekly flights, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Turkish Airlines will be the first airline to offer business class tickets to Finnish Lapland, enabling Rovaniemi to tap into high-end tourism from Asia and beyond.

“Utilising the Istanbul hub is a huge opportunity for Rovaniemi,” saidSanna Kärkkäinen, CEO of Visit Rovaniemi. “Within a three-hour flight range, Istanbul can be reached from 80 travel destinations.”

The new route will connect Rovaniemi and Finnish Lapland to altogether more than 300 travel destinations across 122 countries, after a vast new international airport opened in Istanbul last week.

“Tourists arriving from distant countries to Rovaniemi are attracted by the Arctic Circle and winter season highlights: winter activities, natural phenomena, as well as the traditional favourites of Santa Claus, snow and reindeer,” Kärkkäinen commented. “The local food and culture is also of interest to them.”
