Finnish biogas technology company Watrec has signed a framework agreement with Waste to Electricity (WE Viet) for the design and delivery of a biogas plant in Ho Chi Minh City.

The agreement was signed at the Finnish Embassy in Hanoi. It concerns a major waste management project in Ho Chi Minh City and marks the start of a long-term strategic partnership between Watrec and WE Viet.

As part of the project, municipal solid waste will be separated and the organic and other biodegradable fractions delivered to the biogas process provided by Watrec.

The plant will treat 500 tonnes of waste daily and will be Watrec’s first overseas plant. The design is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019, after which construction of the plant will commence.

Watrec has more than 15 years of experience in organic waste management solutions in Finland, where it recently built a network of six biogas plants that handle over 300 000 tonnes of waste and produce more than 20MW of renewable energy in the form of biogas every year.
