Finnish biotechnology company Biohit has found a distributor for its nicotine-free Acetium lozenge, an effective tool for smoking cessation, in Indonesia.

Biohit

signed the distribution agreement with pharmaceutical company Satya Abadi Pharma.

The effectiveness of the Finnish company’s smoking cessation solution has been demonstrated in two clinical trials. If it is used every time a cigarette is smoked, it will eventually alter the taste and decrease the pleasure of smoking.

“The Acetium lozenge for smoking cessation is an innovation developed and manufactured in Finland,” said Biohit CEO Semi Korpela. “It contains L-cysteine that binds [carcinogenic] acetaldehyde. The Acetium lozenge removes up to 90 per cent of smoke-derived acetaldehyde in saliva. Free from nicotine and side effects, Acetium offers a safe method for those trying to quit smoking.”

There are up to 60 million active smokers in Indonesia and the yearly death toll from smoking runs in the hundreds of thousands.

Biohit has previously found distributors for the Acetium lozenge in China and Greece.
