Korpela’s protagonist in Void suffers from severe writer’s block and relationship problems.Peter Flinckenberg / Bufo

Finnish actor Tommi Korpela has been awarded the Silver George for Best Actor at Moscow International Film Festival.

He earned the accolade at the 41st edition of the international film festival for his performance in Aleksi Salmenperä’s dark comedy Void (Tyhjiö).

Void

follows a writer named Eero (Korpela), whose career is spiralling downward, as is his relationship with ambitious actress Pihla (Laura Birn), who is about to make her international breakthrough.

The film depicts the price of success, and the agony of failure and the times when your significant other just doesn’t get it.

Void

premiered last fall and was recently recognised with four Jussi Awards in Finland: for best film, director, sound design and editing.

The low-budget independent film is presented in black and white and took four years to complete. It is produced by Bufo and Sahadok, and the film score is written by Salmenperä’s childhood friend, composer Ville Tanttu.
