Seven Finnish companies have been included on this year’s Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World list.

Finnish heavyweights Neste, Outotec, UPM-Kymmene, KONE, Metso, Nokia and Kesko were named in the Global 100, announced in Davos during the World Economic Forum. The list was compiled using 21 quantitative key performance indicators across the pillars of environmental and social responsibility and good corporate governance to measure the sustainability of 7 536 global companies.

“The high quality of the sustainability work done by Finnish companies is based on strong Finnish ownership and the needs of demanding consumers on the one hand, and on the companies’ willingness to meet the criteria of international responsible investors on the other,” saidMikko Routti, executive director of the FIBS Corporate Responsibility Network.

Neste was the sole company of the Finnish septet to rank in the top 10, the second year in a row it has done so. This also marked the company’s 13th consecutive inclusion on the Global 100, a stretch that exceeds that of any other energy company in the world.

“Such a top ranking can never be taken for granted as all the world’s best performing companies aim higher and improve their performance year after year,” saidPeter Vanacker, president and CEO at Neste. “Our ranking shows that Neste has continued to develop its sustainability in the right direction and that our employees are very passionate about helping to create a healthier planet for our children.”
